comb. nov.

Diuncus mesoleiulus ( Schedl 1979) comb. n.

Previous genus: Xyleborus

Diagnosis: An unusually shaped Diuncus : long elytra, short declivital costa, no vestiture, completely black, elytra shining, and most notably, there are no tubercles or spines on the elytra. Elytral spines are also absent in D. justus (Schedl) , which also can have slightly prolonged elytra. However, D. mesoleiulus is considerably longer (especially the very long elytra relative to the regular pronotum), and the declivital impression is absent. Both examined specimens were black, and from New Guinean highlands.

Length: 2.5 mm.

Discussion. Schedl (1979) placed the species among his Xylebori solitari, and indicated that it is easily recognizable by its smooth shining surface and very delicate puncturation.

Examined material: New Guinea, Morobe Province, Bulolo, (holotype, NHMW); PNG: Chimbu Prov. (1), J. Hulcr 2002–2006.
