Etymology. The specific name refers to the type-locality.

Description. Integument dark-brown; antennomeres brown, with yellow ring on basal third of III–V, basal half of VI–VII, and basal two thirds of VIII–XI.

Head. Pubescence yellowish. Frons wider than long. Upper eye lobes with four rows of ommatidia; distance between upper eye lobes equal to 4.0 times width of one lobe. Lower eye lobes longer than gena. Antennal tubercles projected. Antennae reaching apex of elytra approximately at middle of antennomere VIII. Scape thickened toward apex; as long as two-thirds of antennomere III. Antennomeres IV–XI decreasing in length.

Thorax. Sides of prothorax subparallel with inconspicuous tubercles behind middle. Pronotum with two elongated, curved tubercles on each side, and one central tubercle near basal declivity. Pronotum covered with yellowish pubescence; sparsely punctate laterally and on basal declivity. Pro-, meso- and metasternum with yellow pubescence. Scutellum with yellow pubescence, as wide as 1.2 times its length.

Elytra. Integument covered with yellow pubescence; each elytron with white pubescence as follows: at basal third, large, oblique band from humeri to suture, which extends to apex; slightly below the middle, short, oblique band, near epipleural margin; on apical third, two narrow, longitudinal bands, one near suture and another near margin, interconnected on short band before elytral apex; marginal band, from basal fourth nearly to apex. Darkbrown pubescence as follows: oblique band below anterior white band, not reaching suture, turning back obliquely to margin; macula on side of basal third. Elytra coarsely, sparsely punctate on basal half, gradually inconspicuous towards apex; apex rounded.

Legs. Covered with yellow pubescence; basal third of meso- and metatibiae reddish-brown.

Abdomen. Urosternites covered with yellow pubescence; laterally with two densely pubescent spots.

Dimensions in mm (male). Total length, 9.7; length of prothorax at center, 1.8; widest width of prothorax, 2.4; humeral width, 3.6; elytral length, 7.2.

Type material. Holotype male from BRAZIL, São Paulo: Luiz Antonio (Estação Ecológica Jataí, 21°36’27” / 47°43’43”), III.2007, Lara & Perioto col, "mata ciliar" ( MZSP).

Remarks. Hesycha jataiensis sp. nov. is similar to H. consimilis Thomson, 1868 . In both species the lower eye lobes are longer than gena, the antennomere III is brown with yellow ring at basal third, and the elytra are sparsely punctate. It differs from H. consimilis by the humeri without tubercles and by the elytra with bands of whitish pubescence. In H. consimilis , the humeri have inconspicuous tubercles, the elytra are without bands of whitish pubescence, and each elytron has three irregular yellowish spots.

Hesycha jataiensis can be included in the alternative of couplet "6" from Martins & Galileo (1990) (translated, modified):
