TYPE LOCALITY: Mexico, Veracruz (probably vicinity of Boca del Norte) .

DISTRIBUTION: S.W. U.S. A, to Puebla and Veracruz ( Mexico).

COMMENT: Revised by Hoffmeister, 1969, Mise. Publ. Univ. Kans. Mus. Nat. Hist., 51:75-91. Hall, 1981:469, included baileyi , bottae, and townsendii in this species based on a réévaluation of data in Hoffmeister, 1969, Thaeler, 1968, Evolution, 22:543-555, and reported intergradation (between umbrinus and bottae) in Nuevo Leon ( Mexico). Hoffmeister, 1969, considered bottae a distinct species; Thaeler, 1968, considered townsendii a distinct species. Further studies of these taxa are needed.
