Euphthiracarus longulus View in CoL sp. nov.
( Figs. 23–25 View FIGURES 23 – 25 )
Material examined. Holotype: adult (in alcohol, W-91-6), China: Fujian Province, Jiangle County, Longqishan Mt. (26°16'39"N, 117°38'48"E), from litter, 26 Jun., 1991, leg. Xiao-Mei Zhang.
Etymology. The new specific name “ longulus ” is Latin for “long” and refers to the length of genital and aggenital setae.
Measurements. Holotype: Prodorsum: length 200, width 147, height 70, setae: ss 80, in 90, le 66, ro 52, ex 12, distance between setae: ro -ro 34, in -in 65, le -le 32, in -le 55, le -ro 60; notogaster: length 345, width 244, height 223; setae: c1 60, c2 60, c3 57, c p 65, d1 45, d2 45, e1 57, h1 60, h2 50, h3 50, ps1 55, ps2 45, ps3 45; distance between setae: c1-d1 90, d1-e1 100, e1-h1 70, h1-ps1 52; ventral region: genitoaggenital plate 125×70, anoadanal plate 187×45.
Integument: Colour yellowish. Surface of body finely punctate.
Prodorsum: One pair of strong lateral carinae present; bothridial scale situated below bothridium, posterior median apodeme present; sensilli long and setiform, covered with small and sparse spines in distal half; interlamellar and lamellar setae long, robust, erect, sparsely barbed in distal half; rostral setae thin, rough, semi-erect, flagellate and directed inwards distally; exobothridial setae short and fine; comparative length: in>ss> le> ro>ex.
Notogaster: 14 pairs of notogastral setae, relatively short, sparsely barbed in distal half; setae c1-3 remote from anterior border, setae c1 slightly more so than setae c2 and c3; vestigial setae f1 located anteriorly of setae h1; openings of opisthosomal glands and five pairs of lyrifissures present.
Venter: Genital plates with nine pairs of setae, g1-3 short and fine, located in progenital position, g4-6 thicker and longer, posterior three setae much longer than anterior ones; two pairs of aggenital setae present, ag1 not shorter than g1-5, ag2 thick and very long, reaching level of g8; three pairs of anal and three pairs of adanal setae present, setae an1 and an2 smooth and flagellate at distal end, setae an3 and adanal setae shorter, robust and covered with small and sparse spines in distal half; lyrifissures iad situated between setae an3 and ad3.
Gnathosoma: Setae h of mentum longer than distance between them; palps three-segmented with setal formula: 2-2-8(1).
Legs: Chaetotaxy of legs (without tarsi): I: 1-3-4(2)-5(1); II: 1-3-3(1)-5(1), III: 2-2-2(1)-2(1), IV: 2-1-1(1)- 2(1); all legs monodactylous.
Distribution. Known only from type locality.
Remarks. This new species is similar to E. aggenitalis Aoki, 1984 , but differs from the latter by following characters: one pair of lateral carinae present; sensilli setiform; ag1 longer than g1-5; ag2 and posterior three genital setae much longer.
