Etymology: ‘ Marilia ’, after the municipality of Marília in the state of São Paulo, closest to the locality where the fossils were found, and ‘ batrachus ’, derived from the Greek word bátrakhos, meaning frog.
Type species: Mariliabatrachus navai gen. et sp. nov..
