TYPE LOCALITY: Ethiopia, Baschlo region (Ellerman et al., 1953, offered additional comments) .

DISTRIBUTION: From South Africa (see map in Skinner and Smithers, 1990:308) north through most of the continent to Ethiopia, S Sudan, Zaire, and N Angolaand IUCN; extent of range unknown.

SYNONYMS: acraeus , ansorgei , capitis, jamesoni , lineatus , nairobae , ochropus , pallescens, pongolensis, uthmoelleri, whytei.
