Geographical distribution. Atlantic Ocean: South Carolina, Dania Beach, Key Biscayne, Soldier Key, Florida; GoM: Tampa Bay, Florida, Alabama and Mississippi.

Recognition characters. Rounded rostrum; without eyes; mandibular palp, maxilliped and chela with carpus and propodus with a row of long plumose setae on inner margin; mandibular palp lacking simple terminal setae; chela with fixed finger two-thirds length of dactylus. Male cheliped much more robust than in female.

Remarks. This species has its geographical range extended to the southeastern portion of the GoM ( Mexico). It inhabits the first 100 m perpendicular to the shoreline, in mangrove streams, on sandy bottoms composed of calcium carbonate or silica, coarse sand, medium sand, fine sand, very fine sand and fine silt, nearby coral reefs, at depths 0.5 to 82 m. It is a filter-feeder species, on fine particles of detritus and diatoms.
