Orthadenella Athias -Henriot

FEMALE

Gnathosoma. Anterior margin of epistome with three smooth or denticulate projections (the central one broadly triangular) or roundish and multidentate. Setae h1 and h3 subequal in length, longer than h2; insertion of h2 slightly anterior to insertion of h3. Inner palp trochanter seta about as long as outer seta, not elongate. Deutosternum moderately wide to rather narrow, with delimiting lateral lines and seven rows of 2–6 denticles each. Corniculi 2–3 times as long as their basal widths, with pointed tips, well separated from each other, subparallel. Fixed cheliceral digit apparently with eight or more teeth in addition to apical tooth and setiform pilus dentilis; movable digit with three teeth in addition to apical tooth, with transverse groove on basal third of ventral face of the digit, which may be seen as a slight projection in side view.

Idiosoma. Ovoid. Dorsum: podonotal and opisthonotal shields fused and covering the whole dorsal surface of the idiosoma, ornamented, with a delineated strip along lateral margins; without distinct lateral incisions at region of fusion or transverse and nearly straight lines; anterior end of dorsal shield not strongly deflexed. No supernumerary setae on dorsal shield or on unsclerotised ventrolateral cuticle. Podonotal region of shield with 23 pairs of setae (z1 present), including r3, which is more perpendicular to surface of the shield and slightly longer than neighbouring setae. Opisthonotal region of shield with 20 pairs of setae. Unsclerotised ventrolateral cuticle with a pair of setae (R6). Most dorsal idiosomal setae similar to each other, shorter than distance between their bases and bases of subsequent setae (some setae longer in O. multipilisaccula Ostovan & Faraji ), acicular and smooth. Vent er: usually with two pairs of distinct presternal platelets (apparently indistinct in O. tennesseensis (De Leon)) . Sternal shield with three pairs of setae of similar lengths (st1–st3); st2 closer to st3 than to st1; posterior shield margin straight or slightly convex or concave, smooth or undulate. Third pair of sternal lyrifissures (iv3) absent in O. lawrencei (Evans) but associated with st4 on metasternal plates in O. tennesseensis . Genital shield broad, including st5 and iv 5 in O. lawrencei or O. multipilisaccula but only st 5 in O. coulsoni Gwiazdowicz, Marchenko & Teodorowicz and O. tennesseensis ; posteriorly slightly convex to truncate. One or two pairs of metapodal plates. Two pairs of platelets between genital and ventrianal shields. Opisthogaster with 8–9 pairs of setae in addition to circumanal setae, of which 5–6 pairs on broad, subtriangular ventrianal shield; para-anal setae inserted between anterior and posterior margins of anal opening, about half as long as post-anal seta, the latter not stout. Anal opening small, 1/7 to 1/10 of shield length, near posterior shield margin. Anterior section of endopodal shield fused with sternal shield; section behind sternal shield corresponding to a prominent V-shaped plate, contiguous or fused with the posterolateral region of the sternal shield. Exopodal shield a continuous strip along coxae II–IV.

Peritreme. Extending from stigma to level of z1, about as wide as diameter of stigma. Peritrematic shield wide, fused with dorsal shield near s1 and with exopodal shield by a bridge wider than for other genera of the same family, but not as much as for genera of Blattisociidae .

Legs. Setation of legs I–IV, femur: 12, 11, 7 (6), 6; genu: 13, 11, 9, 9; tibia: 13, 10, 8, 10 (9). Leg II not distinctly different from other legs. Legs without macrosetae; telotarsi of legs II–IV without dorsoproximal slender, curved, whip-shaped setae.

Spermathecal apparatus. Not distinct in O. tennesseensis ; unpaired sclerotised sacculus distinguishable in other species, resembling the laelapid-type.
