Orolaelaps De Leon

FEMALE

Gnathosoma. Anterior margin of epistome with three projections, the median smooth and the lateral denticulate. Seta h3 longer than other hypostomatic and pc setae; h2 shorter than h1, in turn shorter than pc; insertion of h2 about in transverse line with insertion of h3. Inner palp trochanter seta distinctly longer than outer setae, elongate. Deutosternum wide, with seven rows of 5–12 denticles each; with delimiting lateral lines extending from the first to the sixth distal rows of denticles, the latter may extend beyond lateral lines. Corniculi about twice as long as their basal widths, with pointed tips, slightly convergent distally. Cheliceral shaft with multidentate hyaline rim along paraxial face, above base of movable digit; cheliceral digits small; fixed digit apparently with 6–10 teeth in addition to apical tooth and a barely discernible membranous lobe instead of a setiform pilus dentilis; movable digit with three teeth in addition to apical tooth and mucronate ventral process.

Idiosoma. Ovoid. Dorsum: podonotal and opisthonotal shields fused, reticulate, without lateral incisions at region of fusion, transverse and nearly straight lines or delineated strip along lateral margins; anterior end of dorsal shield distinctly or barely deflexed, concealing the bases of j1 (in some specimens j1 on the edge of the shield). No supernumerary setae on dorsal shield or on unsclerotised lateral cuticle. Podonotal region of shield with 21 pairs of setae, including r2–r6. Opisthonotal region with ten pairs of setae. Unsclerotised lateral cuticle with 2 – 3 pairs of setae. Most dorsal and lateral setae of idiosoma almost as long as to slightly longer than distance between their base and the base of subsequent setae, acicular and smooth. Venter: presternal platelets indistinct. Large ventral shields with prominent reticulation. Sternal shield with three pairs of setae (st1–st3); st1 and st2 spine-shaped, st3 slender; st1 and st 2 of similar length or st1 longer than st2; st3 slightly longer than st1 and st2; st2 either closer to st3 than to st1, vice-versa or about equidistant to those setae; posterior shield margin concave. Third pair of lyrifissures (iv3) and st4 inserted on metasternal plates or iv3 inserted on unsclerotised cuticle, next to metapodal plates. Genital shield not wide enough to include iv5, but including st5; posteriorly rounded. Two pairs of metapodal plates, the external much larger than the internal. With a minute platelet between genital and anal shields. Opisthogaster with nine pairs of setae on unsclerotised cuticle in addition to circumanal setae; anal shield ovoid (longer axis longitudinal); para-anal setae inserted at level of mid-length of anal opening; post-anal seta about 1.5 times as long as para-anal setae. Anal opening not enlarged, about slightly over 1/3 of shield length, slightly behind shield centre. Anterior section of endopodal shield fused with sternal shield; section behind sternal shield corresponding to an elongate platelet between coxae III and IV. Exopodal shield distinct, encircling posterior margin of coxa IV. Peritreme. Extending from stigma to level of j2, slightly narrower than diameter of stigma. Peritrematic shield narrow, widely fused with dorsal shield at level of s2; fused with exopodal shield by a very narrow and short bridge bearing a pore.

Legs. Setation of legs I–IV, femur: 12, 11, 6, 6; genu: 13, 10, 8, 9; tibia: 13, 9, 8, 10. Leg II not distinctly different from other legs. Legs without macrosetae.

Spermathecal apparatus. Not distinct.

MALE

Gnathosoma similar to female, but corniculi more widely spaced, fixed cheliceral digit with six teeth in addition to apical tooth and movable digit with one tooth in addition to apical tooth; spermatodactyl directed forward, about 1.0–1.5 times as long as movable digit, with proximal half hardly discernible, distal half apparently wider than basal half and flattened, with narrow tip. Dorsal shield with ornamentation similar to female, but slightly broader, completely covering the idiosoma; with four fewer setae on the dorsal shield and without setae on unsclerotised lateral cuticle. Dorsal shield setae similar in length to those of female. Sternogenital shield with five pairs of setae (st1–st5) and two (iv1–iv2) pairs of lyrifissures; posterior margin apparently straight. Endopodal shield fused with sternogenital shield. Metapodal plates absent. Ventrianal shield subtriangular, bearing four pairs of opisthogastric setae in addition to circumanal setae; with two pairs of opisthogastric setae on unsclerotised cuticle (Jv5, Zv5). Peritrematic shield fused with exopodal shield beside coxa IV. Legs as well as leg setae similar to female.
