Habitat and locality

From soil around the roots of forest trees (unidentified) from Kent Ridge Park, near the National University of Singapore, Singapore

Remarks

Cobb (1920) proposed the genus Axonchium with A. amplicolle as its type species collected from Brazil. Thorne (1939) re-described this species based on the study and Jairajpuri (1981) further recorded this species from India and Heyns and Furstenberg (1993) recorded it from islands in the western Indian Ocean along with a description of the male. Recently, Ahmad and Naz (2010) recorded it from Japan. The present population from Singapore, although having the smallest body size (vs 1.4–1.98 mm in populations recorded so far), fits well with the morphometric data of A. amplicolle recorded from several parts of the world. The Singapore population also has a very short anterior uterine sac and a comparatively rounded tail.
