Distribution. China (Hebei, Beijing, Shandong, Henan, Shaanxi, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Hubei, Guangxi, Fujian); South and North Korea, Japan, Philippines ( Rozkošný et al., 2010).

Remarks. This species is very similar to S. spinipes externally but has conspicuously different male terminalia. As for non-genitalic characters, Rozkošný et al. (2010) described in detailed the differences between S. noteoi and S. spinipes .

Steyskal (1980) mentioned in his original description that the hind tibia is yellow with brown rings in the middle and apical portions. We examined 140 specimens (83 males, 57 females) of S. noteoi and found that nearly all specimens had brown rings in the hind tibia. Thus we consider this character to be a constant and useful one in part because the hind tibia of the similar S. spinipes is concolorous yellow and lacks brown rings; thus this can be used to easily separate the two species, as shown in couplet 7 in the key.
