Sepedon ferruginosa Wiedemann, 1824 View in CoL . Anal. Entomol. 56. Type locality: East Indies.

Diagnosis. Male ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 10 – 18 ). Body dark brown. Frons with pair of small D-shaped black orbital spots and pair of posterior orbital setae ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 10 – 18 ). Parafacial spots absent ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 10 – 18 ). Antennae yellowish brown, scape paler. Mesonotum brown but with extensive blackish brown patches. Thoracic pleuron yellowish brown to blackish brown. One pair of apical scutellar setae present. Femur pale yellow at base but usually red in distal half, especially in hind femur ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 10 – 18 ). Wing infumated with darker apex. Female similar to male in external characters except terminalia.

Male terminalia: Sternum 5 divided into two subtriangular sclerites ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 10 – 18 ). Cercus normal, without tubercle protuberance apically ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 10 – 18 ). Surstylus subtriangular ( Fig. 14–15 View FIGURES 10 – 18 ). Hypandrium with a strip-like projection at outer edge ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 10 – 18 ). Cochleate vesicle present. Distribution. China (Yunnan, Hainan, Taiwan); Pakistan, Philippines, Thailand, Burma, Ceylon, India, Malaya, Nepal, Pakistan ( Beaver et al., 1977; Knutson, 1977).

Remarks. This species is similar to S. lobifera in having a cochleate vesicle and distinct velvet black spots on the frons but differs from S. lobifera in lacking parafacial spots. It can be distinguished from S. lobifera by the present of orbital and scutellar setae.
