Diagnosis

As in Short (1953) and Smith (2002) with the following exceptions. Oral sucker present, delimited posteriorly by fine internal membrane, body constriction or both. Testis single, mostly intercaecal, may extend outside intercaecal field anteriorly, laterally or posteriorly. Male genital pore opening on dorsal surface, sinistral, before posterior end of body. Ovary irregular, medial to dextral in orientation, posterior to, abutting or slightly overlapping posterior margin of testis. Oviducal seminal receptacle present. Parasites of heart, blood vessels of kidney, liver, coelom and gills of marine fish ( Chaetodontidae , Cheilodactylidae , Kyphosidae , Latidae , Lutjanidae , Mugilidae , Odacidae , Sciaenidae , Scombridae , Siganidae and Sparidae ). Type­species Cardicola cardiocola ( Manter, 1947) Short, 1953 .
