Epipleoneura lamina Williamson, 1915 View in CoL

( Figs. 11 View FIGURES 10 – 12 , 28 View FIGURES 28 – 47 , 66 View FIGURES 53 – 66 )

Epipleoneura lamina Williamson 1915: 625 View in CoL –627, figs. 25–26 (new species, description of male and female, illustration of S 10 in dorsal and lateral view, type material at NMNH). Kennedy 1917: 293, plate xxiii fig. 29 (illustration of genital ligula in lateral view). Rácenis 1960: 25–26 (included in list of species, recorded for British Guyana). De Marmels 1992: 61, 72, figs. 20–22 (new record for Venezuela, illustrations of genital ligula in ectal and lateral view, female prothorax in dorsal view). Garrison et al. 2010: 352, 355, figs. 2318, 2319, 2345 (included in list of species, illustrations of head in anterior view, male pronotum and epiproct in posterior view). Pessacq et al. 2012: 4 (included in list of Brazilian Protoneuridae View in CoL , new record for Brazil).

Specimens examined. 2♂, 1♀. 1♂, Brazil, Amazonas State, Borba, Jutaí, route BR 319, km 378 (04º23’16”S, 59º35’38”W), leg. J. Becker, 3 xi 1977. 1 ♂ 1 ♀, Brazil, Rondônia State, Pardo river and tributaries, 13 km NW of Fazenda Rancho Grande, 62 km SW of Ariquemes (10º50’S, 63º07’W), RWG.

Diagnosis. Male cercus resembles that of E. capilliformis . The cercus posses a well-developed inner-basal branch, with its apex directed posteriorly, reaching midline of S10. The epiproct ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 10 – 12 b–c) resembles that of E. tariana Machado, 1985 , but is short and its apex has two small rounded lobes joined at base that may represent two almost completely fused branches. See under E. tariana for further comments. The two lateral elongated L-shaped lobes on the genital ligula apex ( Fig. 28 View FIGURES 28 – 47 ) differentiate E. lamina from all other species. The female posterior margin of pronotum ( Fig. 66 View FIGURES 53 – 66 ) is unique in having a medial depression, thus resulting in two lateral lobes each with its inner apex rounded and divided by a small distance from each other.

Distribution. Northwestern Brazil in the States of Amazonas and Rondônia and Guyana (type locality Wismar, Guyana).

Notes. The present record for Rondônia represents a new record for that State.
