Genus Ljania Thor, 1898

Diagnosis (after Cook 1974, revised): Characters of subfamily Axonopsinae. Dorsal shield complete, with a pair of distinct or indistinct posterolateral indentations. Suture lines of coxae either distinct or obliterated. Genital field with three pairs of acetabula, fused with ventral shield in males but on separate plates in female. A distinct ridge present anterolaterally from insertion of fourth legs. Opening for insertion of fourth legs without apparent condyles or projections. Posterolateral suture lines of fourth coxae may be complete or completely absent. Excretory pore lying on a distinct tubercle. Palp without projections or heavy ventral setae. Legs without sexual dimorphism; distal segments of first leg with a reduced setation, first leg longer than second leg.

Species of the genus Ljania are reported from Europe, Japan, Russian Far East, South Korea and North America ( Imamura 1956, Cook 1974, Kim & Chung 1996, Tuzovskij 2012). The records presented in this paper are the first from the Oriental region, and require an emendation of the genus as given by Cook (1974).
