The fossil family Praeaulacidae currently comprises two subfamilies: Cretocleistogastrinae from the Lower Cretaceous of East Asia and Australia, Praeaulacinae from the Middle Jurassic of northeastern China and Late Jurassic of south Kazakhstan ( Li et al. 2013b; Li & Shih 2014; Li et al. 2018; Jouault et al. 2022). A total of 33 fossil species within ten genera from China are recognized as valid (Li & Shih 2014; Wang et al. 2015; Li et al. 2018; Jouault et al. 2022).
