Saldula sp. [published record not examined]
Saldula pallidipennis Reuter : Horváth (1929a: 332), “Bcharré im Libanon ”.
Remarks. The taxon recorded by Horváth (1929a) was originally described by Reuter (1888: 226) as Acanthia melanoscela var. pallidipennis , then upgraded to species level by Reuter (1895: 23), and finally synonymized by Cobben (1959: 309) with Saldula palustris Douglas, 1874 . However, S. palustris is a halophilous species ( Péricart 1990), whose separation from S. pallipes is often challenging. Thus, the record by Horváth (1929a) from Bsharri (= Bcharré), in a mountainous area of the interior of the country, suggests a likely misidentification or in any case would require revision. Anyway, the presence of S. palustris along the Lebanese coasts seems probable.
