Pisosoma jugosum View in CoL . — Haig 1956: 16.
Material examined. Panama [Caribbean]: 1 male, cl 3.5, cw 3.3, 1 ov. female, cl 3.9, cw 4.1 ( MZUSP 40067 View Materials ) , Isla Grande, northern side, large shallow bay, wave-exposed intertidal, in rock crevices, leg. Anker et al., 31 July 2018 .
Previous records. Rodríguez et al. (2005).
Distribution. West Atlantic: USA (Florida), Mexico, Belize, Panama (Bocas del Toro, Punta Galeta, Isla Grande, Bahía de Caledonia), Cuba, Puerto Rico, N, E and S Lesser Antilles, Colombia and Venezuela ( Rodríguez et al. 2005; Poupin 2018; present study).
Ecology. Lower intertidal and subtidal, typical depth range: 0–30 m, exceptionally down to 146 m; under rocks and within coral rubble, also associated with zoanthids ( Zoanthus ), fire corals ( Millepora ), scleractinian corals ( Meandra ), coralline algae ( Goniolithon ) or sabellariid worm reefs ( Gore 1982; Poupin & Lemaitre 2014; Poupin 2018).
Remarks. Petrolisthes jugosus is a small bulky species, characterised by the P1 carpus bearing longitudinal crests on the dorsal surface and four large serrated teeth along the mesial margin (distal-most tooth smallest). It is also the only western Atlantic species of Petrolisthes with a five-plated telson. In life, P. jugosus can be recognised by the carmine-red colouration of the carapace, with two white dots lateral to the cardiac area; the similarly carmin-red P1, with darker fingers and white fingertips; and brown-mottled P2–4 ( Fig. 59 View FIGURE 59 ; see also Fig. 90D View FIGURE 90 and photographs in Rodríguez et al. 2005; Poupin & Lemaitre 2014; Poupin 2018).
