Distribution. East Pacific: Mexico, Panama (Las Perlas Is.), Colombia and Peru ( Haig, 1962; Gore & Abele, 1976; Hiller et al., 2004; Moscoso 2012).

Ecology. Mostly subtidal, rarely in the intertidal, known depth range: 0–80 m; on mud, sand, and sand and shells substrates; no commensal association reported so far ( Haig 1960; Gore & Abele 1976).

Remarks. Porcellana hancocki is closely related to the western Atlantic P. sigsbeiana A. Milne-Edwards, 1880 , differing from the latter by the much longer and slender P2–P4 ( Haig 1960). It is poorly known species, with only a few records (including one from Panama) and no information on its life colour pattern.
