Konishi 1962: 3 (species included: omogoensis ). Type species: Cotasterosoma omogoensis Konishi, 1962 , by original designation.
Diagnosis. Species of the genus Cotasterosoma are recognizable among all weevils by the unique combination of the following nine non-unique adult characters: (1.) small-sized relatively glabrous weevils of characteristic “edaphic Cossoninae ” habitus ( Figs 1 View FIGURE 1 A–D, 2A–D); (2.) antennae consisting of scape, funicle with six ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 F) or seven antennomeres (the type species, but see Discussion) and seemingly one-segmented club ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 F); (3.) all tarsi fivesegmented ( Figs 2 View FIGURE 2 G–I); (4.) all tarsomeres subcylindrical in shape ( Figs 2 View FIGURE 2 G–I); (5.) fore-legs with unci arising from the middle of apical margin of tibia ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 G), and not from the dorso-apical corner; (6.) tarsomere 3 not enlarged ( Figs 2 View FIGURE 2 G– I); (7.) tarsomere 4 short and inserting at apical surface of tarsomere 3, with a few setae on ventral side ( Figs 2 View FIGURE 2 G–I); (8.)
male genitalia with U- or Y-shaped tegmen broadly abbreviated dorsally ( Figs 1 View FIGURE 1 E–H); (9.) collum of spermatheca bent at apex and almost parallel to ramus ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 K).
