ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: Palumbia sicula Rondani, 1865 ; Eristalis inflatus Macquart, 1834 .

TYPE SPECIES: Palumbia sicula Rondani, 1865 [= Sphixea bellieri Bigot, 1860 ], by subsequent designation ( Thompson, 1975: 196).

CURRENT STATUS: Valid genus [ teste Peck (1988: 211) ].

FAMILY: SYRPHIDAE .

CURRENT STATUS: Incorrect subsequent spelling of Pangonius Latreille, 1802 View in CoL or subsequent usage of Pangonia Macquart, 1834 View in CoL .

FAMILY: TABANIDAE .

REMARKS: The earliest mention of Pangonius Latreille, 1802 using the spelling “ Pangonia ” that we have found in this study is Pangonia Macquart (1834a: 191) , n. syn., as an unjustified emendation made available by similar spelling changes in two or more names from “us” to “a” in the same work.
