Bulbophyllum flabellum-veneris (J.Koenig) Aver. View in CoL , Updated Checklist Orchids Vietnam: 73, 2003

Basionym: Epidendrum flabellum-veneris J.Koenig View in CoL in A.J.Retzius, Observ. Bot. 6: 57, 1791.

Homotypic synonym: Cirrhopetalum flabellum-veneris (J.Koenig) Seidenf. & Ormerod View in CoL in G.Seidenfaden, Descr. Epidendrorum J.G. König: 39, 1995.

Heterotypic synonyms: Ephippium lepidum Blume, Bijdr. Fl. Ned. Ind. : 310, 1825. Bulbophyllum lepidum (Blume) J.J.Sm., Orch. Java: 471, 1905. Cirrhopetalum lepidum (Blume) Schltr., Repert. Spec. Nov. Regni Veg. 10: 185, 1911.

Cirrhopetalum gamosepalum Griff., Not. Pl. Asiat. 3: 296, 1851. Phyllorkis gamosepala (Griff.) Kuntze, Revis. Gen . Pl. 2: 677, 1891. Bulbophyllum gamosepalum (Griff.) J.J.Sm., Bull. Jard. Bot. Buitenzorg , sér. 2, 8: 24, 1912. Type:— MYANMAR. Tanintharyi Region: Myeik District, Griffith s.n. in Mergui Herbarium 520 (holotype: not located).

Bulbophyllum griffithianum C.S.P.Parish & Rchb. f., Trans. Linn. Soc. London 30: 153, 1874, nom. illeg. Type :— MYANMAR. Mon State : Mawlamyine District, Parish 138 (lectotype K, designated here; isolectotype: W-R 49496 ).

Specimens examined:— MON. Mawlamyine District: type; same loc., Gilbert 2 (icon. W). TANINTHARYI. Dawei District: fide Aung et al. (2020: 65; as B. lepidum ); Myeik District: type. Also reported from Chin State by Kress et al. (2003: 66; as B. lepidum , originally cited as Cirrhopetalum gamosepalum ), but we have not seen any material from this area.

Distribution:— Andaman Islands, Myanmar, Thailand, Indochina and Malesia as far east as the Moluccas.

Note:— Parish 132 was selected as the lectotype of B. griffithianum by Clayton (2017: 64). However, this appears to be a mistake: Parish 138 at Kew is labelled B. griffithianum , whereas Parish 132 at Kew is a Dendrobium species. Parish (1883: 191) and Grant (1895: 57) also cited Parish 138 under B. griffithianum . We therefore designate Parish 138 as the lectotype of this name.
