Diagnosis. Size 8.6–10.8mm. Frontal Index 5–5.9. Species easily recognizable due to the scutum and scutellum covered with lemon-yellow hairs, black legs and abdomen, subcallus smooth and shiny, orange antenna and hyaline wing with orange costal cell.

Comments. The male was described by Kröber (1931) as Tabanus nigriflavus Kröber, 1931 , and more recently by Wilkerson (1979). L. flavinotum has been captured in the lower stratum of the primary forest. It attacks horses, cattle and occasionally man.

Distribution. Southern Costa Rica; Panama; Colombia; Venezuela; eastern Peru; Brazil (Acre; Amazonas).
