Pycnoclavella aurilucens Garstang, 1891 View in CoL

In the British Isles this species has a western distribution, being present around the coast of Ireland as far north as the Skerries in County Antrim; in the South-west of England and as far north as the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea. The morphological characters were as previously described for this species ( Pérez-Portela et al. 2007a). No larvae were observed in the colonies examined in the present work. We found the common form with three orange spots on each zooid, as well as a less abundant form in which these spots are white. The species has also been reported in the north-western Mediterranean (Costa Brava) ( Figure 1 View FIGURE 1 ).
