Bohart and Stange, 1965: 128 (key), (male, female; distinct species; subgenus Zethusculus ); ( Brazil; Suriname; Peru; Bolivia). Stange, 1975: 80, 89.

Type: Holotype: Brazil: male, Paris ( MNHN). Examined.

Material additional examined: 1♀. (Appendix I).

Diagnosis. More robust than the other members of the group. Macro-punctuation coarse. Males with condylar carina developed. Clypeus with dense macro-punctuation. Species considered rare compared with Z. brasiliensis and Z. mexicanus .

Redescription. Male: As described for Z. brasiliensis except: Coloration: Completely black. Structure: Mandible, carina condylar evident; scutum strongly curved; petiole with abrupt expansion. Sculpture: Dense and coarse

macro-punctures, resembling a leather surface; clypeus with coarse, dense and deep punctuation. Chaeototaxy: More dense, thick and yellowish.

Female: As described to the male, except: Structure: Mandible without condylar carina; apex antennal nonwrapped; clipeo without concavity and apical teeth; mandible tetradentated with the third tooth molariform; S5 and S6 without ligulate processes. Sculpture: macro-punctuations less coarse; clypeus micro-striated between the punctures.
