Material examined. 1 female, China, Hainan Province, Danzhou City, Nada Township, 23.IV.1963, Io Chou leg., deposited in Nankai University.

Remarks. This specimen was identified as P. monticollis ( Walker, 1873) by Jing (1981). A digital photograph of the holotype of Penottus jalorensis (now a junior synonym of P. monticollis ), deposited in the Natural History Museum, prepared by Mr. L. Livermore, was examined. The specimen from Hainan is very similar to the holotype in general aspect, the shape of paranotum is apparently the same; however, the body is much darker than that of the type, and the forewings are dark brown, not transparent, while they are semihyaline with some light brown markings in the type. Until further specimens are received, we follow Jing (1981) to identify the specimen as P. monticollis .
