Sailerus maculosus (Sailer, 1950) comb. nov.
( Figs 1 View FIGURE 1 , 5 View FIGURES 2–5 , 24, 27 View FIGURES 21–27 )
Alitocoris maculosus Sailer, 1950: 72 -73, figs 3, 11, 16 (original description); Arismendi & Thomas, 2003: 226 (occurrence in Honduras); Garbelotto et al., 2013 (phylogeny); Grazia et al., 2015: 717 (list).
Diagnosis. General color light brown with yellowish spots all over the body; transversal yellowish macula behind the pronotal cicatrices ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 2–5 ). Punctures black. Legs yellowish, contrasting with the dark abdomen.
Head. Brown with a few light maculae and 1+1 longitudinal maculae on mandibular plates; punctures confluent forming wrinkles from clypeus to posterior margin of head. Posterior margin of eyes yellowish. Antennal segments brown with light areas on dorsum of segment I, base of V, and on apex of IV in some specimens; proportion of antennal segments: I≈II<III>IV<V. Ventrally with yellowish maculae at lateral margins and apex of mandibular plates. Labium yellowish, reaching half of abdominal segment VI; proportion of labium segments: I<II>III<IV.
Thorax. Pronotum light brown with transversal maculae posterior to the cicatrices, sometimes extended to the anterior margin, bypassing cicatrices; median longitudinal yellowish line anterior to the maculae. Punctures sparse on yellowish maculae; confluent and forming wrinkles on posterior half of pronotum. Cicatrices plain. Anterior angle with a small tooth projected laterally and yellowish at apex. Anterolateral margins slightly sinuous. Scutellum reaching connexival segment V; brown, some specimens with yellowish maculae between punctures; punctures smaller and denser on lateral margins, and inconspicuous on apex. Coria reaching connexival segment VI; yellowish maculae denser on exocoria; maculae at apex of radial vein equal to ocelli diameter. Membrane slightly surpassing abdominal apex, with eight veins. Pro-, meso-, and metapleura yellowish with black punctures. Pro-, meso-, and metasternum brown to black; peritreme spout, surpassing half of evaporatorium width; legs yellowish, femora and tibiae with brown spots, sometimes confluent on tibiae; tarsi brown.
Abdomen. Segments of connexivum with middle yellowish maculae, extending ventrally. Abdomen velvety, with dense and evenly distributed yellowish maculae; median area of urosternites V and VI, and urosternite VII completely brown. Trichobothrial tubercles brown; margin of spiracles yellowish.
Female. Measurements (n=2): head length, 1.7 ± 0.07 (1.65–1.75); width, 2.69 ± 0.16 (2.58–2.8); pronotum length, 2.63 ± 0.18 (2.5–2.75); width, 6.58 ± 0.39 (6.3–6.85); scutellum length, 4.70 ± 0.28 (4.50–4.90); width, 3.80 ± 0.28 (3.60–4.00); length of antennal segments: I, 0.75 ± 0.00 (0.75–0.75); II, 0.68 ± 0.04 (0.65–0.70); III, 1.73 ± 0.04 (1.70–1,75); IV, 1,55 ± 0 (1.55–1.55); V, 1.80 ± 0.14 (1.70–1.90); length of labial segments: I, 1.35 ± 0.00 (1.35–1.35); II, 2.38 ± 0.18 (2.25–2.50); III, 1.93 ± 0.11 (1.85–2.00); IV, 1.78 ± 0.18 (1.65–1.90); total length, 12.20 ± 0.42 (11.9–12.50); abdominal width, 7.75 ± 0.07 (7.70–7.80).
Genitalia. Gonocoxites VIII with posterior margin sinuous, and in lateral view the lateral half projects posteriorly; sutural angles projected over gonocoxites IX; lateral angles rounded, projected over laterotergites VIII ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 21–27 ). Laterotergites VIII with median yellowish maculae, spiracles on callus ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 21–27 ). Disc of laterotergites IX plain; mesial margin higher than lateral margins ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 21–27 ); internally, anterior margin subrectilinear ( Fig. 27 View FIGURES 21–27 ). Anterior margin of gonocoxites IX concave. Ring sclerites on the edges of the thickening of gonapophyses IX. Thickening of gonapophyses IX broad, occupying the median 2/3 of gonapophyses, posterior margin sinuous. Proximal portion of ductus receptaculi as wide as middle portion of median duct of vesicular area; vesicular area twice the length of pars intermedialis plus capsula seminalis; median duct of vesicular area enlarged at base; internal duct twisted at base and apex; distal portion of ductus receptaculi short, about 1/3 of the length of vesicular area. Pars intermedialis long, four times longer than capsula seminalis; annular crests perpendicular to pars intermedialis; capsula seminalis globose with long processes ( Fig. 27 View FIGURES 21–27 ).
Male. Unknown.
Remarks. Sailerus maculosus comb. nov. resembles other species of Ochlerini in the Herrichella clade, such as: species of Xynocoris Garbelotto & Campos, 2014 , Herrichella ornata ( Garbelotto & Campos, 2013) , and Herrichella thoracica Distant. Sailerus maculosus comb. nov. can be differentiated from Xynocoris by the body shape and larger size, the direction and shape of the calli of gonocoxites VIII; the concave anterior margin of gonocoxites IX; and the well-developed annular crests. Compared to Herrichella , S. maculosus differs from: H. ornata by the broader and more regular maculae on pronotum, the shape of head and pronotum, and the female genitalia; and H. thoracica by the smaller maculae with denser punctures on pronotum, and by the female genitalia principally the shape of the gonocoxites VIII ( Campos & Roell, 2018, Fig. 4F, p. 4 View FIGURES 2–5 ).
