Cesasundana lorniensis , new species

( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 )

Cesasundana sp.— Tan, 2012: 62

Material examined. Holotype (female): Singapore, Central Catchment Nature Reserve, MacRitchie forest, along Lornie Trail, coll. M. K. Tan, 2 November 2010 ( ZRC).

Paratypes: 2 females, Singapore, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, coll. D. H. Murphy, (1) 20 August 1970 and (2) 23/ 24 November 1971 ( ZRC).

Diagnosis. Generally similar to the other two species, but differ by female subgenital plate with spine-like processes apically; ovipositor with apical margin denticulated; pileolus narrow as in C. producta from Java, but apically more strongly directed dorsally as in C. securifera from Borneo.

Description. Habitus as shown in Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 A. Head small, triangular, with length circa 0.6 times of pronotum length (n = 1, holotype). Fastigium short, narrower than antennal scapus, triangular with apex obtuse; slightly depressed laterally, medially forming a ridge; very feebly furrowed medially ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 B). Eye very large. Frons smooth. Pronotum smooth, circa 1.3 times longer than wide (n = 1, holotype); dorsal plate with anterior margin straight; posterior part with very shallow medial furrow; with posterior margin broadly rounded; lateral keel not distinct; lateral lobe circa as long as tall (n = 1, holotype), ventral margin rounded and posterior margin broadly rounded. Prosternum unarmed. Meso- and meta-sterna with broadly rounded lobes. Tegmen and hind wing fully developed. Tegmen with anterior and posterior margins parallel. Tegminal venation: Radius sector (Rs) originates around middle, forked around middle of Rs. Hind wing surpassing tegmen. Legs generally delicate. Anterior coxa with a ventral spine-like process. Anterior femur with 5 internal ventral spines (n =1, holotype). Anterior tibia with external tympanum open and oval and internal tympanum slit-shaped; with 8 inner spines and 5 outer ventral spines; 2 outer dorsal spines near tympanum (n =1, holotype).

Female. Abdominal apex as shown in Figs. 1 View FIGURE 1 C–1E. Tenth abdominal tergite with distal margin subtruncated, laterally with a feeble lobe, setose. Epiproct tongue-shaped, broader than long ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 C). Pileolus narrowly triangular; apically more strongly directed dorsally ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 E). Cercus gently curved internally, conical, tapering to an obtuse apex ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 C). Subgenital plate rectangular, longer than wide; apical margin truncated, laterally produced into two spine-like processes ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 D). Ovipositor small and short sabre-shaped; margins denticulate near and at apex ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 E).

Male. Unknown.

Colouration. Green in general. Tympanum partly brown. Tegmen green; basally a little blue green; with cells around medial posterior veins brown. Hind wings hyaline, with apex green. Spines on legs with brown apices. Abdomen pale, tergite dorsally with blue tint. Ovipositor green, with denticulated margins brown.

Measurements (in mm). See Table 1 View TABLE 1 .

Etymology. The species is named after type locality, Lornie Trail of MacRitchie forest of Central Catchment Nature Reserve. It is also named as such to highlight the potential environmental damage befalling the forest reserve due to the proposed construction of the Cross Island Mass Rapid Transport ( MRT) Line.

Elbenia Stål, 1876: 56 . Type species: Elbenia nigrosignata Stål, 1876

Diagnosis. Medium sized Phaneropterinae , mostly green when alive. Tegmen with first branch of radius bifurcate; originating before the middle, running parallel to R1 and forking distally with both branches reaching the margin just behind the apex. Fore coxa armed with a distinct, sharp external spine. Genicular lobe of hind femur blunt. Abdominal apex in males highly variable.
