Subshrub,stem cylindrical, longitudinally striped; leaves imparipinnate,stipules lateral,leaflets opposed or sub-opposed, concolorous or discolorous, venation weakly brochidodromous or camptodromous ( D. leptophyllum , intramarginal venation), stipels absent. Inflorescence axillary in racemes, stem longitudinally striped; flowers pedicellate, congested at branch apex, 1 bract at pedicel base, 2 bracteoles adpressed to the calyx; calyx campanulate, gamosepalous, 2 dorsal and 3 ventral lacinia; corolla glabrous, yellow with vinaceous veins, vexillum with canaliculate claw, wing and keel petals obtuse at apex, unguiculate, auriculate at base, wing petals usually with lunate sculptures on the ventral surface, rarely absent ( D. tocantinum ), keel petals dorsally connate; 10 stamens, tetradelphous, 1+4+1+4, heterandrous, filaments glabrous, anthers introrse, usually elliptic, rarely oval ( D. leptophyllum ), dorsifixed, rimose; annular disc at gynoecium base, ovary stipitate, spiralled, 3-ovulate, style filiform, glabrous, incurved, stigma punctiform or clavate ( D. junceum ). Fruit 3-jointed loments, middle segment winged, one-seeded, seminiferous region central, reticulation evident, wing lateral, margin corrugated, rarely not corrugated ( D. junceum ), sinuous ( D. pulchellum ), seed reniform, smooth, color uniform, rarely black transversal arcs ( D. leptophyllum ); calyx, stamens, and style persistent.
