1. Minasia alpestris (Gardner) Robinson (1992b: 650) . Chresta alpestris Gardner (1842: 239) . Vernonia alpestris (Gardner) Baker (1873: 55) . Type:— BRAZIL. Minas Gerais: ‘in saxosis alpestribus in districtu Adamantum’, July 1840, G. Gardner 4820 (lectotype: BM [not seen], designated by MacLeish (1985: 469); isolectotypes: C [not seen], K e! [K000677892, K000677893]) ( Fig. 31 C–D ).

Vernonia gagnepainiana Glaziou (1909: 370) , nom. nud.

Distribution and habitat: — Brazil (Minas Gerais, endemic of the Diamantina Plateau). Campo rupestre; 950–1450 m.

Taxonomic Notes: —A species easily recognized by its oblanceolate leaves and laxly congested sessile capitula. It can be confused with Minasia scapigera Robinson (1992b: 651) , but the latter species have linear to lanceolate leaves and smaller capitula. The other species of the genus with oblanceolate leaves is M. pereirae Robinson (1992b: 650) , which otherwise is smaller in all its parts and whose cypsela has indumentum throughout the surface, whereas in M. alpestris the cypsela is distally glabrous.
