Distribution and habitat: — Brazil (Minas Gerais). Campo rupestre.

Taxonomic Notes: —A rarely collected species, very similar to Lychnophora salicifolia , but L. martiana is more robust and differs by the denser and thicker branch indument, longer and wider leaves and sessile to subsessile inflorescences. Also similar to L. villosissima , but this species has petiolate leaves with reticulodromous pattern venation. Two different samples of L. martiana are mounted on the same sheet at K, the lower branch being from Gardner 4824 (K000484701) (isotype of L. martiana ) and the upper branch from Pohl 569 (K000484702) (isotype of L. lanigera ). Lectotypification of L. lanigera by Coile & Jones (1981) was unnecessary since Schultz-Bipontinus only indicated one specimen at W.

Representative specimens: — BRAZIL. Minas Gerais: Diamantina, Pinheiro près Diamantina , 26 April 1892, A.F.M. Glaziou 19476 (K, LE, P, R); ibid., Jequitinhonha, a 110 km de Diamantina , 16 August 1970, A.P. Duarte 12821
