Type locality: Sweden? ( Harz 1969). In the species description, no type locality is given ( Thunberg 1815). Distribution: Central and southern Europe, North Africa, Palearctic Asia ( Pinedo 1984; Fontana et al. 2002). Biogeographic zones: Tellian Atlas, Northern Sahara.

Bioclimatic zones: Humid, subhumid, saharian.

Records in Algeria: River bank of Oued Sébaou [36°43'N 4°04'E]; Fort National [36°38'N 4°12'E]; Michelet [36°34'N 4°18'E] ( Werner 1914, as Xiphidion fuscum ( Fabricius, 1793)) . Liha, El-Oued [33°21'N 6°52'E] ( Beggas 1992). Béchar [31°37'N 2°13'W] ( Doumandji-Mitiche et al. 1999).
