Description. Tegmen 15.7–16.5 mm long (holotype 16.5), 4.9–6.2 mm wide (holotype 5.5 mm), length/width 2.6–3.1 (holotype 3.0); strongly emarginate at the apex of RA and less so at the apex of CuA; apical lobe somewhat variable in relative length and proportion, ranging from about as long as wide and occupying about 0.25 of total wing length ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 13 – 14 ), to about 1.4 times longer than wide and occupying about 0.4 of total wing length ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 15 – 17 ); apical half of costal space somewhat variable in width, the narrower the space, the less accentuated the emargination at the apex of RA (compare Figs 15 and 16 View FIGURES 15 – 17 ); hind margin of clavus with up to 6 irregularly spaced small swellings ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 6 – 8 ); R with 2–4 costal veinlets which are sometimes forked; branches of RA2 and M sometimes with end-twigs ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 15 – 17 ); colour pattern apparently somewhat variable—most specimens with a fairly consistent dark patterning comprising a fascia across R, M and Cu, a central spot on RP, a blotch apically around M and CuA, and diffuse patterning in the costal space and across the apical third of the tegmen (Figs 13,15), however one specimen has black speckling all over somewhat masking the underlying more usual pattern which is still discernable ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 15 – 17 ), and a few others appear entirely steel grey ( Fig. 17 View FIGURES 15 – 17 ), although the latter colour state may be preservation-related manganese staining.

Notes. Dysmorphoptiloides elongata is one of the most common fossil insects found at Mount Crosby, probably in part due to the robustness of its coarsely punctate coriaceous tegmina during sedimentary transport and deposition.
