Type species: Oriolus oriolus Linnaeus ( Passeriformes : Oriolidae ). Type locality: West Europe.

FEMALE (holotype and 6 paratypes). Total body length 650–705. Gnathosoma . Infracapitulum punctate. Each medial branch of peritremes with 2–3 chambers, each lateral branch with 10–11 chambers. Stylophore punctate, 145–150 long. Movable cheliceral digit 115 long. Idiosoma . Propodonotal shield punctate on whole surface. Length ratio of setae vi: ve: si 1:1.2–1.6:5.2–7.6. Setae vi, ve and si thin and with delicate ornamentation. Hysteronotal shield punctate, not fused to pygidial shield. Setae d2 and e2 subequal in length. Pygidial shield punctate. Setae h1 about twice as long as f1. Length ratio ag1: ag2: ag3 1.1–1.3:1:1.2–1.5. Setae ps2 1.6 times longer than ps1. Both pairs of genital setae subequal in length. Genital plate present, setae ag2 and ag3 located on or near this plate. Coxal fields I–IV punctate. Setae 3c about 3 times longer than 3b. Legs. Setae p’ and p” of legs III and IV with 10– 11 tines. Length ratio of setae tc’III–IV: tc”III–IV 1:1.6. Lengths of setae: vi 25–30, ve 30–40, si 150–190, se 215– 230, c1 235–265, c2 175–190, d1 180–195, d2 160, e2 140–170, f1 20–25, f2 250, h1 45–50, h2 310–340, ps1 15– 20, ps2 25, g1 and g2 35–45, ag1 140–145, ag2 115–135, ag3 160–175, tc’III–IV 45, tc”III–IV 70–75, 3b 30, 3c 90–105, l’RIII 40–45, l’RIV 30–40.

MALE (3 paratypes). Total body length 405–415. Gnathosoma . Infracapitulum punctate. Stylophore apunctate. Each medial branch of peritremes with 2–3 chambers, each lateral branch with 10–11 chambers. Length of stylophore and movable cheliceral digit 135 and 110 respectively. Idiosoma . Propodonotal shield weakly sclerotized, sparsely punctate, bearing bases of setae vi, ve, si and c1, setae se on or near this shield. Length ratio of setae vi: ve: si 1:1.2:2.8. Hysteronotal shield not fused to pygidial shield, weakly sclerotized, punctate. Setae d1, d2, and e2 subequal in length. Pygidial shield restricted to genito-anal region, apunctate. Setae h2 about 10 times longer than f2. Aggenital setae ag1 about twice as long as ag2. Both pairs of pseudanal setae subequal in length. Genital setae g1 situated anterior to level of setae g2, both subequal in length. All coxal fields punctate. Setae 3c 2.8 times longer than 3b. Legs. Fan-like setae p’ and p” of legs III and IV with 6–7 tines. Length ratio of setae tc’III– IV: tc”III–IV 1:2. Lengths of setae: vi 25, ve 30–35, si 70–80, se variable in length 65–105, c1 variable in length 80– 145, c2 70–80, d1 15, d2 15, e2 15, f2 20–25, h2 210–220, ag1 65–70, ag2 35, tc’III–IV 20–25, tc”III–IV 35–40, 3b 25, 3c 70, l’RIII 30.

Type material examined. Oriolus oriolus (Linnaeus) ( Passeriformes : Oriolidae ): female holotype and paratypes: 6 females, 4 males and 1 larva ( AMU –SYR.51) (sec.); WEST EUROPE, 1909, no other data. Host specimen deposited in the MNHW .

Type material deposition. Holotype deposited in the AMU, paratypes in the AMU, ZISP, SNM.

Non-type material examined. Oriolus chinensis Linnaeus (Oriolidae) : 8 females and 2 nymphs ( AMU – SYR.127) (sec.); CHINA, 1909, no other data. All mite material deposited in the AMU, host specimen in the MNHW .

Host range and habitat. Oligoxenous species inhabiting quills of secondary feathers of two orioles species: Oriolus oriolus and O. chinensis .

Distribution. West Europe, China.
