Description. FEMALE (holotype). Total body length 715 (680–720 in 7 paratypes). Gnathosoma . Infracapitulum sparsely punctate. Each medial branch of peritremes with 2–3 chambers, each lateral branch with 8–9 chambers. Stylophore apunctate, 140 (140–145) long. Movable cheliceral digit (105–110) long. Idiosoma . Propodonotal shield sparsely punctate on whole surface. Length ratio of setae vi: ve: si 1:1:2–3. Setae vi and ve very thin and smooth, other propodonotal setae with delicate ornament. Hysteronotal shield not fused to pygidial shield, sparsely punctate. Setae d2 and e2 subequal in length. Pygidial shield densely punctate posteriorly. Setae f1 and h1 subequal in length. Length ratio ag1: ag2: ag3 1:1:1–1.2. Setae ps2 1.7 times longer than ps1. Genital plate present, setae ag2 and ag3 situated on this plate. Both pairs of genital setae subequal in length. Coxal fields I–IV punctate. Setae 3c 3 times longer than 3b. Legs. Fan-like setae p’ and p” of legs III and IV with 6 tines. Length ratio of setae tc’III– IV: tc”III–IV 1:1.7. MALE. Total body length 455 in 1 paratype. Gnathosoma . Each medial branch of peritremes with 2 chambers, each lateral branch with 8 chambers. Sylophore apunctate, 115 long. Movable cheliceral digit 100 long. Idiosoma . Propodonotal shield covered by minute punctations, bearing bases of setae vi, ve, si, se and c1. Length ratio of setae vi: ve: si 1:1:1. Hysteronotal shield weakly sclerotized, striae visible, punctate, not fused to pygidial shield. Setae d2, d1 and e2 subequal in length. Pygidial shield small, restricted to genito-anal region, apunctate. Setae h2 10 times longer than f2. Setae g1 situated anterior to level of setae g2, both subequal in length. Pseudanal setae ps1 and ps2 subequal in length. Setae ag1 1.6 times longer than ag2. Coxal fields I–IV punctate. Setae 3c 3.3 times longer than 3b. Legs. Fan-like setae p’ and p” of legs III and IV with 5–6 tines. Length ratio of setae tc’III–IV: tc”III–IV 1:2. Type material. Coccothraustes coccothraustes (Linnaeus) ( Passeriformes : Fringillidae ): female holotype and paratypes: 10 females, 1 male, 11 nymphs and 4 larvae ( AMU –SYR.233) (sec.); POLAND, Wielkopolskie, Katy near Poznan , April 2008, coll. M. Skoracki.

Type material deposition. All material deposited in the AMU, except 2 female paratypes in the ZISP .

Host range and habitat. Monoxenous species known from quills of secondary feathers of Coccothraustes coccothraustes .

Distribution. Germany and Poland.

Etymology. The name refers to the generic and specific name of the host.

Differential diagnosis. This new species is morphologically similar to Syringophiloidus erythrurus . In females of both species, each medial branch of the peritremes has 2–3 chambers and setae vi and ve are subequal in the length. The both species are distinguished as follow: in females of S. coccothraustes , the total body length is 680–715; the propodonotal shield is punctate; setae si are 2–3 times longer than vi and ve; the hysteronotal shield is not fused to the pygidial shield; pseudanal setae ps2 are 1.7 times longer than ps1; aggenital setae ag1 and ag2 are subequal in the length; the genital plate is present. In females of S. erythrurus , the total body length is 550–580; the propodonotal shield is apunctate; setae si are 5.4–6 times longer than vi and ve; the hysteronotal shield is fused to the pygidial shield; pseudanal setae ps1 and ps2 are subequal in the length; aggenital setae ag1 are twice as long as ag2; genital plate is absent.
