Diagnosis and recognition

Body length: male, 7.3±13.2 mm; female, 8.5±15.2 mm.

Clypeus, labrum, maxillary and labial palpi, antennae, legs, thoracic sterna reddish brown, remaining parts dark reddish brown or blackish brown. Elytra with two slightly raised yellow ivory fasciae: one in middle, more or less straight; one at sub-base, zigzag and broken into three spots on each elytron; no ivory spot on disc before apex (®gure 7).

Head narrower than prothorax; prothorax longer than wide. No raised carinae between antennal tubercles; distance between lower lobes of eyes more than twice but less than three times distance between antennal socket and lateral angle of post clypeus, and more than 1.5 times but less than twice distance between upper lobes of eyes. Segments 3±7 of antennae with small apical spines (spine on segment 7 very small or vague); segment 3 longer than scape, segments 4 or 5; scape not grooved above. Pronotum nitid with ®ve distinctly raised and nitid nodules on disc: medial one oval, anterior pair round, posterior pair of irregular form; the interspace of nodules with fairly dense or sparse punctures, each producing a long yellow erect hair, and with fairly dense and short pale depressed hairs; lateral tubercles rounded. Elytra subparallel, nitid, more than three times but less than 3.5 times length of prothorax; apex truncate; basal half of disc with dense, large and deep punctures, about 1/3±2/5 of the punctures producing long yellowish brown erect hairs; apical half of disc with dense, small and shallow punctures, most of the punctures producing fairly long yellow depressed hairs and a few producing long yellowish brown erect hairs.

Male terminalia. Apex of median lobe sharply pointed. Unspined region of internal sac about twice as long as spined region; spined region much narrower than unspined region and divided into two sections: ®rst section absent; second section slightly wider than third section, with simple large and long spines; third section about three times as long as second section, with mixture of dense simple large and long spines and basally forked spines (®gure 17). Eighth sternite rounded at sides, dense long and fairly long setae arising sublaterally and terminally; the setae present in mid-terminal area; very sparse microspines on ventral surface. Apex of eighth tergite rounded.

Ovipositor. As in ®gure 18.

Variation

In some specimens, the two ivory fasciae of the elytra are vague; the marginal angle of the elytron apex may be slightly toothed.

Biology

Hosts unknown. Adults were collected at light during January to March and September to December.

Distribution

Southern and south-eastern Victoria, eastern New South Wales, eastern Queensland, south-eastern South Australia and south-western Western Australia (®gure 3).

Comments

This species resembles A. scitula (Pascoe) but diOEers in having the most area of the pronotum more or less nitid on disc; the elytron without any apical pale mark.
