Type material: Holotype: ♂, Dominican Republic, Cienaga , La Veja, Parque Nacional A. Bermudez [19°07’N, 70°38’W], 19 July–2 August 1995, S. & J. Peck leg. ( AMNH). GoogleMaps

Paratypes: 1♀, from the same vial as holotype (AMNH); 5♂, 1♀, 2 juveniles, same data as holotype ( AMNH) GoogleMaps ; 1♂, 1♀, same data as holotype ( IBSP 165433 View Materials ) GoogleMaps .

Etymology. The specific name is a patronym in honor of Armando Bermudez, after whom the type locality is named.

Diagnosis. Males of N. bermudezi sp. nov. resemble those of N. croix sp. nov., N. ouali sp. nov. and N. mammee sp. nov. ( Figs 50 View FIGURES 46 − 52. 46 − 48 , 109 View FIGURES 106 − 112 , 124 View FIGURES 123 − 128 ) in the TBE bifid, with long and slender branches, the main branch slightly longer than secondary branch ( Figs 27, 29 View FIGURES 26 − 32 ). They are distinguished from these species by the embolus distally flattened with a spike-like tip ( Figs 27, 29 View FIGURES 26 − 32 ). Females are distinguished from those of the remaining species of the genus by the anterior rim divided and median septum pentagonal, with lateral margins parallel ( Fig. 30 View FIGURES 26 − 32 ) and by the copulatory ducts almost transversal ( Fig. 31 View FIGURES 26 − 32 ).

Description. Male (AMNH, holotype): Prosoma orange brown with brown margins and brown lines extending posteriorly along lateral margins of cephalic region, from PME and along thoracic striae. Fovea brown. Eye borders black. Chelicerae orange brown with pair of brown longitudinal stripes. Legs and pedipalps brown, slightly lighter than prosoma. Sternum orange brown with brown margins. Endites orange brown, distally cream colored. Labium brown, distally cream colored. Opisthosoma brownish gray; dorsally with gray pattern of irregular marks laterally and on anterior half and chevron like marks on posterior half; ventrally mottled with few dark gray spots. Total length 7.1. Prosoma: 3.5 long, 3.2 wide. Opisthosoma: 3.5 long, 2.2 wide. Eyes: diameters: 0.22, 0.18, 0.16, 0.18; interdistances: 0 12, 0.06, 0.24, 0.20, 0.10, 0.02. Legs (2413): I: 13.3 (3.7, 1.7, 3.6, 3.3, 1.0); II: 13.7 (3.9, 1.7, 3.6, 3.5, 1.0); III: 10.7 (3.2, 1.4, 2.6, 2.7, 0.8); IV: 13.4 (3.9, 1.3, 3.3, 3.8, 1.0). Palp: VTA small, situated medially; dRTA triangular in retrolateral view; vRTA developed as small bump at base of dRTA; median apophysis arising from tegulum at 3 o’clock position; conductor with roughly the same width throughout its entire length; TBC short, roughly squared, slightly longer than wide; Embolus arising from tegulum at 9 o’clock position, gently narrowing towards filiform tip ( Figs 26−29 View FIGURES 26 − 32 ).

Female (AMNH, paratype): Coloration pattern as in male. Total length 9.6. Prosoma: 4.1 long, 3.6 wide. Opisthosoma: 5.6 long, 4.0 wide. Eyes: diameters: 0.26, 0.22, 0.16, 0.22; interdistances: 0.16, 0.14, 0.38, 0.32, 0.12, 0.06. Legs (2413): I: 11.3 (3.3, 1.8, 3.0, 2.5, 0.7); II: 11.6 (3.6, 1.8, 2.9, 2.6, 0.7): III: 9.3 (3.0, 1.6, 2.0, 2.0, 0.7); IV: 11.4 (3.5, 1.4, 2.6, 3.0, 0.9). Epigyne: epigynal field as long as wide; median septum as wide as long with anterior margin roughly straight and posterior margin procurved ( Fig. 30 View FIGURES 26 − 32 ). Vulva: glandular projections rounded with wide base; spermathecae oblong, narrower close to fertilization ducts; internal ducts indistinguishable ( Figs 31−32 View FIGURES 26 − 32 ).

Variation. Males (n = 6): total length 6.2−7.5; prosoma length 3.0−3.5; femur I length 3.2−3.9. Females (n = 2): total length 7.0−9.6; prosoma length 3.1−4.1; femur I length 2.7−3.3.
