GENUS WALBECKODON GEN. NOV.
Type species: Walbeckodon krumbiegeli sp. nov., late Selandian, Walbeck.
Referred species: Walbeckodon girardi sp. nov., late Thanetian, Cernay and Berru.
Etymology: From the locality of Walbeck and from the Greek odou ς, odonto ς, tooth. Masculine.
Diagnosis: Small louisinids. P 4 with distinct, moderate-sized hypocone. P 4 metaconid subequal with protoconid, the former restricted mesially. M 1–2 hypocone projects from lingual margin. M 2 metacone tilted lingually. Deep M 1–2 postflexus. M 1 larger than M 2 and with large paraconid. M 1–2 cristid obliqua stops short of back of trigonid. M 1–2 hypoconulid large. Dentary angle at level of tooth row. Dentary condyle far above level of tooth row (only known for W. krumbiegeli , but what is known of the dentary of W. girardi suggests a similar position).
