Type-species. Spinacopia sandersi Kornicker, 1969 .
Composition. Genus Spinacopia includes 15 species: S. bisetula Kornicker, 1969 , S. sandersi Kornicker, 1969 , S. variabilis Kornicker, 1969 , S. menziesi Kornicker, 1969 , S. octo Kornicker, 1970 , S. antarctica Kornicker, 1970 , S. torus Kornicker, 1970 , S. mastix Kornicker, 1975 , S. rex Kornicker, 1995 , S. illex Kornicker, 1995 , S. crux Kornicker, 1995 , S. trox Kornicker, 1995 , S. sandix Kornicker, 1995 , S. syrinx Kornicker, 1995 , S. dietkeyseri , new species.
Distribution. Members of this genus live mainly on the southern hemispere between 08°S and 73°S and a depth of 133–4758 m with the exemption of Spinacopia sandersi which Kornicker 1969 found on 30° N at a depth of more than 1000m (Kornicker, 1969, 1970, 1975, 1995; Hartmann, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1992) ( Table 1 View TABLE 1 ).
