Material examined. Singapore: Sentosa Reef , one m (ovigerous) (spent crab and zoea I, ZRC, reg. no. 1998.794), hatched 24 November 1987, coll. P. K. L. Ng 21 November 1987 .

Zoea I description. Carapace (®gure 24a): dorsal spine smooth, curved distally, relatively short; rostral spine smooth and much longer than rostral spine; rostral spine much reduced and much shorter than antennal protopod; lateral spines absent; one pair of posterodorsal setae; ventral margin without setae, eyes sessile.

Antennule (®gure 24a, b): uniramous, endopod absent; exopod unsegmented with four terminal aesthetascs (2 broad and long, 2 shorter and slender) plus two terminal setae of unequal length.

Antenna (®gure 24a, c): protopod distally spinulate, longer in length than rostral spine but slightly shorter than exopod; endopod absent; exopod longer than protopod, unsegmented, distally spinulate with one long and one smaller medial setae unequal in length.

Mandible: endopod palp absent.

Maxillule (®gure 25a): coxal endite with seven setae; basial endite with ®ve terminal setal processes and two small teeth; endopod two-segmented, proximal segment with one seta; distal segment with six (2 subterminal +4 terminal) setae; exopod seta absent.

Maxilla (®gure 25b): coxal endite bilobed with 6 +4 setae; basial endite bilobed with 5 +4 setae; endopod bilobed with 3 +5 (2 subterminal +3 terminal setae); exopod (scaphognathite) margin with four setae and one long distal stout process.

First maxilliped (®gure 26a): coxa without setae; basis with 10 setae arranged 2,2,3,3; endopod ®ve-segmented with 3,2,1,2,5 (1 subterminal and 4 terminal setae) respectively; exopod two-segmented, distal segment with four long terminal plumose natatory setae.

Second maxilliped (®gure 26b): coxa without setae; basis with four setae; endopod three-segmented, with 1,1,5 (2 subterminal and 3 terminal) setae respectively; exopod two-segmented, distal segment with four long terminal plumose natatory setae.

Third maxilliped: absent.

Pereiopods: absent.

Abdomen (®gure 27a, b): ®ve somites; somite 2 with a pair of dorsolateral processes directed anteriorly; somite 3 without a pair of dorsolateral processes; somites 1±5 with rounded posterolateral processes; somite 1 without dorsal setae; somites 2±5 with one pair of posterodorsal setae; pleopod buds absent.

Telson (®gures 25c, 27a, b): each telson fork long, spinulate and gradually curved distally; one long lateral spine present; second lateral spine absent; dorsal small medial spine present; posterior margin with three pairs of stout spinulate setae.
