Material examined. CANADA: Northwest Territories, Whaleman River (6845.6'N, 11946'W), 5 males, 2 females, 28.vii.2000, D.C. Currie & B. V . Brown ( ZMBN).

Diagnostic characters. The adult male is separated from all other members of the genus by the antenna with 11 flagellomeres, AR 0.85; superior volsella separate medially, superior volsella and inferior volsella with rounded corner.

Male (n = 5)

Total length 1.61–1.80, 1.69 mm. Wing length 1.04–1.10, 1.18 mm. Total length/wing length 1.5–1.6. Wing length/profemur length 2.9. Wing width/wing length 0.39 (3).

Coloration. Head brown; thorax, legs and abdomen yellowish brown.

Head. Eyes hairy. Antenna ( Fig. 27 B) with 10 flagellomeres, flagellum apically club-shaped, with apical sensilla chaetica, ultimate flagellomere 137 µm long. AR 0.85. Tentorium 123–135, 127 µm long, 16 µm wide; stipes 80–90, 86 µ m long. Lengths of palpomeres (in µm): 17–18; 22–25, 24; 59–66, 63; 55–69, 61; 83–105, 94. Palpomere 5/3 ratio: 1.3–1.8, 1.5; palpomere 3 rounded rectangular to round. Clypeus with 10–12, 11 setae. Palpomere 3 with 1 sensilla clavata. Outer verticals 1, coronals 4.

Thorax. Antepronotals absent. Dorsocentrals 7–11, 9 uniserial, prealars 3, supraalars 1. Scutellum with 2 setae. Wing ( Fig. 27 A). VR 1.70–1.89, 1.85. Cu/wing length 0.49–0.51, 0.50; C 380–400, 388 µm long; Cu 505–579, 545 µm long. Brachiolum with 1 seta; wing width/wing length: 0.39; costa with 16 setae.

Legs. Fore trochanter with dorsal keel. Spur of fore tibia 33–48, 38 µm long; of mid tibia 20–22 and 10 µm long; of hind tibia 35–37 µm long. Width at apex of fore tibia 25–40, 35 µm; of mid tibia 25–32, 28 µm; of hind tibia (a) 35–37, 36 µm. Width of hind tibia 1 / 3 from apex (d) 18–22, 20 µm; elongation length (b) 21–23, 22 µm; length of maximum thickening (c 1) 41–48, 44 µm; total length of thickening (c 2) 66–69, 68 µm; a/d 1.6–2.0, 1.8; b/ d 1.0–1.2, 1.1; c 1 /d 2.2–2.6, 2.4; c 2 /d 3.1–3.7, 3.3. Hind tibia expanded, with comb of 13–19 setae, one seta near spur strongly S-shaped. Lengths and proportions of legs as in Table 22.

Hypopygium ( Fig. 27 C–D). Tergite IX with 8–10, 9 short setae; laterosternites IX with 1 long seta. Superior volsella anteriomedially separate. Inferior volsella broad and rounded, with 9–11 strong setae. Phallapodeme curved and expanded medially, 52–55, 54 µm long. Transverse sternapodeme 41–47, 44 µm. Megaseta stout, 6–7 µm long. inner margin of gonocoxite with thin glandular setae. HR 2.6–3.0, 2.8; HV 3.2– 4.1, 3.8.

Female (n = 1–2)

Total length 1.32–1.41 mm. Wing length 1.04–1.05 mm. Total length/wing length 1.27–1.34. Wing length/ profemur length 3.6–3.7.

Coloration. Color as in male but paler.

Head. Eyes hairy; height of eye/height of head 0.64–0.65. Antenna with 5 flagellomeres, flagellomere lengths (in µm): 36–39, 25–30, 35–37, 25–26, 43–45. AR 0.33–0.34. Ultimate flagellomere with apical sensilla chaetica. Tentorium 107–110 µm long; stipes 67–69 µm long, maximum 4 µm wide. Palpomere lengths (in µm): 14–17, 18– 20, 55–57, 51–55, 61–65. Palpomere 5/3 ratio 1.1. Palpomere 2 small, palpomeres 3, 4 and 5 slender. Sensilla clavata absent. Clypeus with 11 (2) setae.

Thorax. Dorsocentrals 10–11, prealars 3. Scutellum with 2 setae.

Wing ( Fig. 27 E). VR 1.61–1.62.Wing broader than in male. C 280–282 µm long; Cu 448–450 µm long. C/ wing length 0.27 (2), Cu/wing length 0.43. Brachiolum with 1 seta, costa with 26–27 setae.

Legs. Fore trochanter with distinct dorsal keel. Spur of fore tibia 40–42 µm long; spurs of mid tibia 20–22 µm long; of hind tibia 30–32 and 21–23 µm long. Width at apex of fore tibia 40–42 µm, of mid tibia 28–30 µm, of hind tibia (a) 36–38 µm. Width of hind tibia 1 / 3 from apex (d) 26–28 µm, elongation length (b) 19–20 µm, length of maximum thickening (c 1) 35–37 µm, total length of thickening (c 2) 69–70 µm; a/d 1.36–1.38, b/d 0.71–0.73, c 1 /d 1.32–1.35, c 2 /d 2.50–2.65. Hind tibia with comb of 11–12 setae. Lengths of leg segments and their proportions as in Table 23.

Abdomen. Numbers of setae of tergites III–VIII: 8, 6, 6, 8, 8, 2.

Genitalia ( Fig. 27 F–G). Sternite VIII without setae, tergite IX with 8–10 setae at caudal margin, gonocoxite IX with 1 seta. Segment X large, rectangular. Coxosternapodeme curved. Cercus 46–50 µm long, 23–25 µm wide. Notum length 63–65 µm. Seminal capsules 94–96 µm long, 30 µm wide; neck length 30–35 µm long, width at apex 8–10 µm. Postgenital lobe covered with spine-like microtrichia.

Distribution. This species had been recorded from Russian Far East (Palaearctic Region). The present specimen was collected in Canada (Nearctic Region).

Remarks. The male measurements are almost the same as in Makarchenko et Makarchenko (2006) except that in their specimens the total length is 1.00– 1.25 mm and the antenna has 11 flagellomeres, while in our specimens the total length is 1.61–1.80 mm and the antenna has 10 flagellomeres. The female was previously not known.
