Cymbionotum (Cymbionotum) semirubricum ( Reitter 1914) View in CoL

Hexagonia vartianorum Jedlička, 1967: 469 View in CoL (type locality: “Bakuba bei Bagdad”) new synonymy

Type material. Hexagonia vartianorum Jedlička , holotype ♂, tarsi of fore legs, onychium of right middle leg and whole right hind leg missing, “ IRAK 15.V.63 Baguba” [handwritten on white label] / “ Holotypus ” [black print on red label] / “ Hexagonia vartianorum sp.n. det. Ing Jedlička” [black mixed handwritten & print on pink label] [ Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ] ( NMW).

Remarks. In order to identify a specimen of Dinopelma Bates in NMW, I was able to discover the holotype of Hexagonia vartianorum Jedlička, 1967 in a box with specimens of tribe Hexagonini. The discovery was surprising as far as this taxon is completely different compared to the species of Hexagonini. The subsequent quest for the taxonomic position of H. vartianorum was facilitated very much by the revision of Melaenini ( Ball & Shpeley 2005). The states of four characters, namely: 1/ antennomere 2 pyriform, with margins markedly constricted proximally; 2/ body size more than 5 mm; 3/ elytron bicolored, pale anteriorly, dark posteriorly; 4/ femora and tibiae piceous to rufous, revealed that this taxon is conspecific with C. semirubricum .

Hexagonia vartianorum View in CoL was described by two specimens, a male and a female, coming from “Bakuba bei Bagdad“ ( Jedlička 1967). The type locality refers to city of Baqubah, the capital of the Diyala Province of Iraq. According to Ball & Shpeley (2005: 63), the populations of C. semirubricum View in CoL from Iraq fall into the range of the morph semirubricus View in CoL and the study of the specimen at hand has confirmed that.

For the complete synonymic list of C. semirubricus View in CoL see also Ball & Shpeley (2005: 61).
