Physotarsus orellanensis Reshchikov and Sääksjärvi sp.n.

Figs 12–14 View FIGURES 12 – 14 .

Diagnosis. Physotarsus orellanensis Reshchikov and Sääksjärvi sp. n. can be distinguished from all other described species of Physotarsus by the combination of the following characters: 1) coloration: metasoma mostly, hind coxae and femora entirely, hind tibiae (excluding apical part) yellow, apical part of hind tibiae and hind tarsi dark ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 12 – 14 ), 2) maximal length of temple equal with transverse eye diameter, 3) malar space 1.3 times as long as basal mandible width ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 12 – 14 ), 4) first metasomal tergite long (2.3–2.7 times as long as broad apically).

This species is similar with P. eliethi , but differs from it by entirely yellow head ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 15, 16 ), longer maximal length of temple (0.9 times transverse eye diameter), longer first metasomal tergite (2.7 times as long as wide apically), and longer malar space (1.1 times basal mandible width), hind tibiae yellow and only apically dark (14).

Description. Male. Body length 4 mm. Antennae with 17 flagellomeres each. Scapus as long as wide ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 12 – 14 ). Head narrowed behind the eyes, shining. Maximal length of temple 0.9 times transverse eye diameter; minimal length of temple 0.75 times transverse eye diameter. Face 1.2 times height of eye; moderately flat, with bulge. Face sparsely covered with very short pale setae ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 12 – 14 ). Interantennal area flat. Clypeus separated from face by transverse groove; projecting anteriorly, with central lobe. Clypeus about 2.6 times as wide as long. Clypeal foveae not large, pointed laterally. Interantennal distance about 2 times the distance between lateral ocelli. Lateral ocelli separated by about 0.6 times their widest diameter from each other and about 1.42 times their widest diameter from eye margin. Malar space 1.1 times basal mandible width. Occipital carina present on ventral part of head. Lower mandible tooth longer than upper.

Mesosoma smooth, shining, without punctures, pubescent. Lateral groove of pronotum distinct. Pronotum smooth, impunctate, shining. Mesoscutum shining and impunctate. Notaulus not impressed. Epicnemial carina strongly turning towards anterior margin of mesopleuron. Mesopleuron impunctate, shining. Tarsal claws elongate, not pectinate. Hind tarsi not thick, as long as hind tibia; each article of hind tarsi length ratio 16:6:4:3:4. Fore wing stigma about 6 times longer than wide. Radius intercepted stigma at its middle. Second recurrent vein with a single bulla. Nervellus intercepted below middle. Nervulus intersticial. Propodeum without carinae.

Metasoma shining. First metasomal tergite 2.7 times as long as apically broad; without shallow median longitudinal impression and longitudinal carinae. Second metasomal tergite transverse. Subgenital plate not enlarged, in male V-shaped notched ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 12 – 14 ). Parameres shorter than aedeagus ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 12 – 14 ). Aedeagus longer than parameres ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 12 – 14 ).

Color. Yellow, brown markings present on metasomal tergites 2–8, whitish ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 12 – 14 ): face, malar space, mesopleuron, fore and middle coxae, tip of aedeagus. Antennae darkening apically. Hind tibiae apically and tarsi entirely brown. Fore wing hyaline, apically infuscate.

Material. Holotype male. Ecuador, Orellana, 00° 39' 25.7" S 076° 27' 10.8" W, 216.3m., canopy fogging, 09.x.1994, leg. T.L Erwin, USNM.

Distribution. Ecuador.

Etymology. The species epithet refers to the Department of Orellana, Ecuador. The species has been found from this department.
