Distribution. A Caucasian species, known also from the Eastern Anatolia ( Sseliwanoff 1884; Bonato et al. 2011a). Russia: Stavropol ( Muralewicz 1907; Zuev 2016) and Krasnodar territories ( Volkova 2016), North Ossetia – Alania (? see Remarks) ( Sseliwanoff 1884), Rostov-on-Don Region, Kalmykia ( Zuev & Evsyukov 2016), and Dagestan (new).
Remarks. The name Geophilus caucasicus was introduced as a nomen nudum by Sseliwanoff (1881b), the corresponding description has been provided by Sseliwanoff (1884).
According to Sseliwanoff (1884), the type locality is “ Kakhetia, Gadaur, Lars, Nukha”. Unfortunately ,
“Lars” is an uncertain locality. There are 2 villages “Lars”: “Verkhniy Lars” and “Nizhniy Lars”, both in
North Ossetia – Alania ( Russia), ca. 35 km N from “Gadaur” ( Georgia). This species is new to the fauna of the Dagestan.
