65. Hercostomus nigripennis (Fallén, 1823) (Dolichopodinae) View in CoL — new to Portugal

Number of specimens recorded. 4.

Distribution. Europe, largely lacking in the south and southeast (except for Italy). Portugal: one province (Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro).

Ecology. The only sampling site of this species in Portugal were permanent pastures (Lameiros) bordered by Betula sp. , and an ancient bog that was drained in the 20th century for cultivation. In northwestern Europe, this species is restricted to open oligotrophic biotopes where it can be found in numbers on flowers of Potentilla erecta ( Pollet 2000) .

Rarity (%). 1.1 (very rare). Fairly rare (FL).
