Cyclograpsus integer H. Milne Edwards, 1837 View in CoL View at ENA
( Figs. 54A–E View FIGURE 54 )
Cyclograpsus integer H. Milne Edwards, 1837: 79 View in CoL [Type locality: Brazil].
Trindade specimens. 1 male, 1 juvenile female ( MZUSP 42516 View Materials ), Trindade Island , M. Camargo coll., viii.2007, intertidal .
Size of largest male: cl 8.4 mm, cw 9.1 mm; largest female: cl 5.9 mm, cw 7 mm.
Comparative material examined. Brazil: São Paulo: 1 male, cl 11.8 mm, cw 15.4 mm ( MZUSP 39525 View Materials ), Ubatuba, at IOUSP Marine Station , M.D. Rodrigues coll., 9.iv.1986 , rocky shore. Santa Catarina: 1 male, 1 female ( MZUSP 13025 View Materials ), Praia de Bombas , J.H.B. Giraldi coll., 5.ii.1995 .
Distribution. Western Atlantic: Bermuda, eastern Florida, Gulf of Mexico, Antilles, Colombia, Venezuela and Brazil (Ceará to Rio Grande do Sul) ( Rodriguez 1980; Melo 1996; Souza 1999; Felder et al. 2009). Brazilian oceanic islands: Fernando de Noronha and Trindade ( Moreira 1920; Fausto Filho 1974). Eastern Atlantic: Cape Verde to Angola ( Manning & Holthuis 1981; González 2018). Indo-West Pacific: from East Africa to Polynesia ( Monod 1956; Manning & Holthuis 1981; Poupin 1994; Poupin et al. 2012).
Ecological notes. Intertidal on sandy-muddy bottoms under rocks ( Poupin 1994; Souza 1999); burrows in marshy marine areas near high tide, also among rocks and dead seaweed, and rocky reefs ( Rathbun 1918). Cyclograpsus integer ( Fig. 53A–E View FIGURE 53 ) shelters under rocks or under mounds of algae during daylight hours ( Hartnoll 1965). The larval development is attained after five, often six zoeal stages in laboratory conditions ( Gore & Scotto 1982). The temperature affects both duration and larval development. The megalopal stage is attained in 26 to 27 days from the zoeal stage V and 31 to 32 days from the zoeal stage VI (at 25°C), while at 20°C the megalopal stage is attained in 53 to 55 days from zoeal stage VI.
Remarks. Moreira (1920) reported on 5 males (largest cl 13 mm) and 7 females (smallest cl 8 mm) of Cyclograpsus integer collected in Trindade in 1916 ( Lobo 1919). So far as we can determine, for 91 years this species was never collected there again until 2007 (see above under material examined).
