Type Material. Holotype: 6, labeled as follows: “ KOREA: Gangwon Prov., Gangreung-si, Okgyemyeon, Jusu-ri , Bondeung-bridge , N37°37’01.56", E129°02’43.27" 5 m, 27 V 2015 YH Kim, JH Song, DH Lee, JS Lee, ex near stream under stone; HOLOTYPE Gnypeta koreana Song and Ahn 2018”. Designated by J.-H. Song and K.-J. Ahn 2018 ( CNUIC) GoogleMaps . Paratypes: 19 (total) – 1069 ♀ (262♀ on slides), same data as holotype ( CNUIC) GoogleMaps .

Description. Length 2.8–3.3 mm. Body ( Fig. 2 View Fig ) surface densely pubescent with microsculpture. Body black to dark brown, rarely brown; antennae and mouthparts reddish brown; legs reddish brown to yellowish brown. Head: Slightly transverse, about 1.1 times as wide as long, widest across eyes, narrower than pronotum; eyes slightly prominent, approximately 1.1 times as long as temples; gular sutures moderately separated, divergent basally. Antennae: Long and slender ( Fig. 3 View Figs ); antennomeres elongate, 1–3 distinctly elongate, 2 longer than 3, 4–8 elongate, 9–10 as long as wide, 11 longest, slightly shorter than preceding 2 antennomeres combined. Mouthparts: Labrum ( Fig. 4 View Figs ) transverse, slightly emarginate in anterior margin, with E -sensillum and 7 or 8 macrosetae on each side of midline; epipharynx with 2 lateral sensory rows on each side of midline; α- sensillum longest and setaceous, about 2.3 times as long as E -sensillum; β- and Ƴ- sensilla short. Mandibles ( Fig. 5 View Figs ) asymmetrical, long, curved and pointed apically, about 1.7 times as long as basal width; with several pores and 4 scrobal setae along outer surface; right mandible with small internal tooth, internal margin serrulate; prostheca developed. Galea and lacinia of maxilla ( Fig. 6 View Figs ) long and slender; lacinia with 7 spines in distal comb region, 2 longer isolated spines present; apical spines of distal comb region and isolated spines separated as long as distance from 1 st to last spines of distal comb region; maxillary palpus elongate and pubescent; palpomere 1 smallest, 2 about 2.9 times as long as wide, 3 longer than 2, about 2.6 times as long as wide, 4 digitiform, filamentous sensilla reaching to basal half. Labium ( Fig. 7 View Figs ) with ligula divided into 2 lobes in basal half; prementum with 2 medial setae very narrowly separated, longer than palpomere 1; 2 basal pores contiguous; few medial pseudopores, several lateral pseudopores, 1 setal pore and 2 or 3 real pores present on each side of midline; labial palpus elongate, with many setulae; palpomere 1 largest, longest and slightly dilated basally, about 2.4 times as long as wide, with 1 twin pore, 2 shortest, about 1.1 times as long as wide, with 1 median pore, 3 long, cylindrical, parallel-sided, about 3.2 times as long as wide, with 1 distal pore. Mentum ( Fig. 8 View Figs ) strongly transverse, trapezoidal, anterior margin slightly emarginate; with 4 macrosetae on each side of midline, v-seta reduced, w-seta slightly longer than u-seta. Thorax: Pronotum ( Fig. 2 View Fig ) slightly transverse, approximately 1.1–1.2 times as wide as long, widest at basal 2/3, pubescence directed antero-laterally, anteriorly in midline. Mesoventral process rounded at apex, slightly longer than metaventral process; metaventral process rounded at apex, slightly wider than mesoventral process, distinctly longer than isthmus. Elytra very convex, longer and wider than pronotum, elytron ( Fig. 2 View Fig ) approximately 1.5 times as long as wide, pubescence directed posteriorly and postero-laterally; postero-lateral margin slightly sinuate. Legs: Slender and long; length ratio of tarsomeres 26:22: 25:68 (protarsus); 27:36:27:30:55 (mesotarsus); 78: 46:42:42:64 (metatarsus); empodial seta absent. Abdomen: Parallel-sided; tergite VIII with 4 macrosetae on each side of midline ( Figs. 9, 11 View Figs ). Secondary sexual characteristics: Male tergite VIII ( Fig. 9 View Figs ) with posterior margin straight; male sternite VIII ( Fig. 10 View Figs ) with about 7 macrosetae on each side of midline, posterior margin almost rounded; female tergite VIII ( Fig. 11 View Figs ) with posterior margin almost straight; female sternite VIII ( Fig. 12 View Figs ) with 6 macrosetae on each side of midline, posterior margin slightly emarginate at apex. Aedeagus: Median lobe slightly concave medially, slightly bulbous at base in dorsal and ventral views ( Figs. 13–14 View Figs ), apical process elongate, triangularly produced in lateral and ventral views ( Figs. 14–15 View Figs ), rounded at apex in ventral aspect ( Fig. 14 View Figs ); internal sac with complex structures ( Figs. 13, 15 View Figs ). Apical lobe of paramerites with 3 setae; b-seta much longer than other setae, c- and d-setae close together. Spermatheca: S-shaped, bursa with broad, funnelshaped umbilicus; duct elongate and slender, recurved at apex ( Fig. 16 View Figs ).

Distribution. Korea (South).

Collection Data. The specimens of G. koreana were collected from under stones along edges of streams about 1.0 km from the East Sea (Sea of Japan) coast of Gangreung-si, South Korea ( Fig. 1 View Fig ).

Remarks. Gnypeta koreana is morphologically similar to another Korean species, G. opaca , but the latter can be distinguished by antennomeres 4–9 subquadrate to slightly transverse and the different shape of spermatheca with a relatively large bursa.We could not examine any male specimens of G. opaca , because it was described based on a single female specimen from North Korea ( Bernhauer 1926).
