Diagnosis. Representatives of the genus Arpactophilus are the only spilomenine wasps with the combination of an occipital carina that is always presently ventrally and a palpal formula never exceeding 5:4 (maxillary: labial). The occipital carina is dorsally interrupted in some species and continuous in others. The frontal carina is always present, varying from a complete carina extending from the median ocellus to the apical margin of the clypeus or may only be present on the lower 2/3 of the frons to the middle of the clypeus. The forewing may have one or two submarginal cells, and only two subdiscoidal cells. The metabasitibal plate is absent, some species have a distinctly colored and structured area apically on the metatibia. Spiniform setae are absent on the legs and pygidium, and tarsomere V is not distinctly larger than tarsomeres I–IV. The metasoma is sessile. Females lack a pygidial plate, but possess silk-secreting setae at the apex.
