Macropsis rubrosternalis Kuoh, 1992: 268 View in CoL

Description. The original description of this species was published in Chinese with a very brief English summary. For this reason here we present a translation of the original description ( Kuoh, 1992: 268).

Head including antenna light yellow greenish. Face with lower part lighter, striations dark brown, longitudinal cibarial muscle impressions in central part on both sides of midline light yellowish brown, hippocrepiform, eyes black, ocelli yellowish brown. Pronotum yellowish green, striations dark brown, central and posterior parts pale brown. Scutellum and forewings pale yellowish with somewhat greenish tinge, lateral corners, transverse notch and striations of scutellum dark brown, with two small but conspicuous dark brown spots below transverse notch. Forewings with scattered dark brown dots on surface, anterior and posterior margins dark brown, veins of the same color as surrounding membrane. Ventral part of thorax dark yellowish with light greenish tint, legs dark yellowish, front and middle tibia light brown, claws and hind tibial setae bases dark brown. Dorsal part of abdomen black, ventral part pale brown, hind margins of most sternites black, 8th sternite with basal part pale brown.

Body appearance similar to M. pallidinota Kuoh (= M. matsumurana ( China) , Li et al. 2012b). Crown shorter at middle, with its length as 1/3 of that near eyes. Distance between ocellus and adjacent eye comprises 1/3 of that from ocellus to midline. Notch on scutellum clearly angularly curved, central part of scutellum slightly concave.

Male pygofer process broad flat, strongly twisted as “S”, its tip not attaining dorsal margin of pygofer, the shape of aedeagus showing in Kuoh (1992: 268, Fig. 26).

Female body coloration similar to this in male, but central area and hind margin slightly darker, lateral corners of scutellum pale greenish, ventral part of abdomen including pygofer and ovipositor entirely light yellowish green. Body coloration sometime slightly lighter or darker among specimens.

Body length (including tegmina): ♂, 4.1–4.2 mm; ♀, 4.2–4.5 mm.

Host. Quercus spp., Fagaceae .

Material examined. None.

Distribution. China (Sichuan Prov.).

Remark. Distinctive characteristics of this species are the strongly sinuated and long pygofer process and the abruptly dorsally upturned aedeagal shaft in distal 1/2 with rounded apex. Undoubtedly, it belongs to the group of species under consideration.
