Type species.— Platypleura evanescens Butler 1882: 389 (Antananarivo, Madagascar) .

Remarks.— Distant (1904a) described the species of Umjaba as having a head about two-thirds the width of the mesonotum, the anterior postclypeus is not truncated, but obliquely deflected anterior to the eyes, the lateral pronotal margins are small, slightly angulated anteriorly and posteriorly but not medially and do not reach the fore wing basal cell, the mesonotum is slightly longer than the pronotum, the metasternum is elevated and centrally sulcate, the rostrum extends beyond the posterior coxae, the fore wing costal membrane is significantly arched proximally but much narrower than the dilated costal area, and a very broad basal cell. Useful structures to distinguish the genus from other Madagascar platypleurines are the small head and the fore wing costal membrane that is much narrower than costal area in this genus.

Distribution.—The species are found in Madagascar, the Comoro Islands and Pemba Island ( Metcalf 1963a; Sanborn 2013).
